Our Progress Towards Civilization Necessitates Some Steps Towards Environmental Conservation
The conservation of the environment is necessitated by several steps we have taken towards civilization and development. We have stepped on the moon, but we have tended to neglect and ignore the environment we live in. The environment needs as much care and attention as any other aspect of our lives. The problem begins when our efforts towards development extract their costs from our environment.
The damage we cause in our efforts towards development are quite significant. For instance, our adamant march towards the next millennium results in several activities where the production of aerosol and other gases that damage the ozone layer is imminent. The damage done to the ozone layer in our atmosphere is irreversible and the consequences can be far-reaching.
There is a consistent use of non-renewable fuels to propel our economy. Their depletion would ultimately bring about total chaos. They provide pollution to the air, which is again irreversible. They produce materials quite harmful to the human body too. So, the stress should be towards the use of renewable sources of energy like water and sun.
Moreover, environmental conservation also includes protection of species of animals and plants from extinction. The rampant hunting and killing of some wild animals has pushed several animals like the dodo to become extinct. Several others like tigers are pushed to the verge of extinction. There has to be a halt to the aimless hunting down of these animals to facilitate environmental conservation.
More and more forests and wetlands are being destroyed today to make way for human settlements. This has to be controlled to protect the environment.
