Rate of Species Extinction Is Highest In The History
The scientists have predicted sixth biggest extinction in the recorded history of the planet. The researchers have concluded that we are undergoing massive depletion of species on the Earth. Due to anthropogenic reasons, the rate of destruction of species has accelerated 100 times more in 20th century. The human being altered the environment more than any other species due to the industrial revolution.
Mass extinction was obvious, said many experts considering the rate at which we are exploiting natural resources. Human being have degraded and destroyed ecologies world over. Last time, the dinosaurs were wiped out from the planet and looks now it is time for humans. The rate at which species are being destroyed is now exponentially higher than last five mass extinctions.
The research published deeply analyses various patterns of extinction. National Autonomous University of Mexico’s Dr Gerardo Ceballos informed that the findings of the research are very shocking. The land reclaimed for buildings. Timber and agricultural activities from forests is highest in last 4.5 billion history of the planet.
Population explosion is the root cause behind the issues. Paul R Ehrlich, a co-author of the study warned that this is explosion effect of the population bomb. If we go as per the classical rate of extinction, it takes two species per 10,000 species for 100 years. In last 100 years around 477 species of vertebrates were vanished from the planet.
It is very unfortunate that the whole planet has to face the effect of actions by man.
