Three environmental issues facing our planet

- Pollution: There is good reason to believe that pollution is one of the biggest environmental issues facing our planet currently. Human beings can survive without food or water for a few days. Humans and all other living things cannot survive without breathable air. When we breathe polluted air, it can make a person sick – making our noses and eyes burn! Pollution damages trees and plants which are the source of the renewal of air. Toxic air gives birth to acid rain that damages the whole environment.
- Deforestation: The word essentially means destruction of forests – permanently – to make the land available for other uses. This is happening everywhere in the whole world. Tropical rain forests are targeted more often and are damaged the most. Indonesia is where most deforestation has taken place thus far. Forests are cut down to be used for paper, furniture, and lumber for constructing homes. Although the cleared areas make land available for agriculture, the effect of this directly impacts the climate, where rains are delayed resulting in droughts and the natural habitat of plant and animal life is endangered.
- Overpopulation: The world currently has a population of more than 7 billion people. Technology, science, and continuing research on biotechnology has increased the human life span. To make more space for human beings to live would mean more forests will need to be cut down and destroyed. More food will be consumed and even more will be wasted. More garbage and rubbish is created everyday which is all going to landfills, essentially creating a toxic wasteland.
